Just steps from the Pacific Ocean, a home that celebrates a laid back California aesthetic but is fused with a traditional East Coast sophistication. In keeping with a beachy aesthetic, walls were kept a crisp white, while all interior doors were lacquered in Hague Blue by Farrow & Ball. Floors and furniture pieces in varying shades of wood add warmth, while custom shelving features a navy blue grasscloth. Natural light plays off textures for a relaxed interplay of high design and easy living.
Family-friendly design solutions came into play since it was key to have creative spaces for children; sturdy, natural rolls of cork were used to line the walls of a hallway, while custom shelving and storage was premium. Miniature replicas of the 1951 Case Study Wire Chair add a clean mid-century element.
Furnishings were a mix of far-flung finds—a driftwood chair picked up in Thailand sits beside a custom sofa covered in a Moroccan wedding blanket. A personal collection of framed Hamsas became the perfect focal point for the entrance gallery—along with a seamless mix of contemporary and vintage accessories. The overall effect is spirited but effortless; the epitome of fresh and modern California living.
“Kristen helped me bring order to my ideas and then added layers and details that really took the house to the next level. She’s supportive, flexible and I really felt like I was working with an old friend.”
