Lookout Mountain

Los Angeles, CA

Tucked in the hills of Laurel Canyon, this home already had all the great bones of a 1940s traditional, but the owners wanted to infuse a fresh sense of color and luxe whimsy. We married the two aesthetics for a fresh take where textiles and color were paramount. The living room took inspiration from the bright, jewel-toned chinoiserie print of the Manuel Canovas drapery fabric.

A vintage Bergere chair and ottoman were reupholstered in jade velvet, while the sofa was a custom creation in the classic St. Thomas style—a nod to celebrated interior decorator, Billy Baldwin. The clear coffee table with brass detailing was an original Charles Hollis Jones that nicely juxtaposes the bold opulence of upholstery and vintage lighting.

The house is an amalgamation of custom furnishings, hand painted wall coverings and vintage pieces sourced from auctions, showrooms and Paris flea markets. Florals mix with animal prints, dark with light, and streamlined metal with soft curves. The overall effect is an elegant hybrid of timeless classics and modern bespoke.
